This study is aimed to know about the effect of semantic mapping on students’ ability to write descriptive text. Fisher and Schumacher (1995) said that Semantic mapping is graphic organizer such a visual strategy. This visual strategy is grouped in several different word and isolated parts of information. Next the word in the graphic was improved into Sentence and paragraph. Semantic mapping was able to give positive effect and improve significant achievement of writing ability. In this study the researcher used quasi experimental research because There were only two exciting class. The study was being conducted by taken of sample which is divided into two groups as control class and experimental class. Control class will be treated by traditional method and the experiment class was be treated by semantic mapping. The data will be analyzed by using ANCOVA. The result of independent sample t-test values reveals that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the achievement of the sub skills of the writing achievement test. Hopefully, the result of semantic mapping study can be used for all students to improve their ability for writing. This study is also recommended as a tool for developing other English skill such as listening, speaking or writing.
